Tredegar's MD is in Scotland this weekend looking to secure a place for Kingdom Brass at Cheltenham
MD Ian Porthouse is currently in Scotland putting the final touches of preparation to the performance of ’Brass Metamorphosis’, on which he will lead Kingdom Brass in the First Section of the Scottish Championships in Perth on Saturday.
Ian was invited to conduct the band after meeting up with them last year, and has been impressed by both the playing and the organisation.
“It’s good to work with other bands, and coming up to Scotland with Kingdom has been a real pleasure, despite the travel time by car!
They are a hard working band with a great attitude and the ambition to get back into the Championship Section. The organisation is very much like Tredegar too – so I’ve felt at home.”

Ian is hoping that this week will be the prelude to further contest success with Tredegar at the Welsh Regional Championships in Swansea on Sunday 18th March – especially as many observers felt he was very unlucky not have led Carlton Main Frickley to qualify for the Albert Hall at the recent Yorkshire Championships.
“Contesting can be cruel at times,” he added. “Carlton Main played very well and most people had them in the frame for a victory or at the very least a qualification place, but as everyone knows it’s the two people in the box that make the decision that counts.
Hopefully the two judges this weekend and in Swansea will enjoy how we perform.”
